Comic Con is not the only platform that “Dexter” made use of to explain the aftermath of shocking season 4 ending. At the Showtime press conference for Television Critics Association tour, the producers explained the theme of season 5 and how this would be different from the last four seasons in terms of the villains.
“This season is about atonement and illuminated and dramatized over the course of the year,” said executive producer John Goldwyn. His working partner Sara Colleton added, “The form Dexter takes to achieve atonement, is not in a form that is conventional in any means.”
Regarding the villain, Colleton said, “We’re taking a break this year from what has been in how we’ve plotted out seasons in the past few years. There won’t be a season long adversary for Dexter. As he’s going through different stages of his grief really, without knowing what he’s feeling, that it takes him through different stages and there will be different characters who will come in and interact. The through-line is Dexter’s atonement and different people help him along the way in different capacities.”
“Dexter” returns September 26 on Showtime.
The CW happened to hold its presentation on the same day (Thursday, July 29). One interesting fact that the network share was, the search for a new superhero series which will replace “Smallville“. CW Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff said, “We have started to talk about if there are other DC comic book adaptations. We haven’t picked anything else up to develop yet, so we would like to see something on the air, so we’re going to work on it.”
She added that the possibility is endless, be it a new DC Comics character or a “Smallville” spin-off. “We are talking about everything,” Ostroff said. “The characters are there. We’re looking at the DC library. There are different parts of the puzzle. At the end of the day, I would love to be able to say now that ‘Smallville’ is going off the air and now we have something else is coming on.”
The tenth and final season of “Smallville” airs September 24 on The CW.
President Barack Obama is set to make another history, this time in television world. It was announced on Monday, July 26 that the U.S. leader will appear on ABC’s “The View“, meaning he is the first sitting U.S. president to visit a daytime talk show.
The episode is scheduled to air on Thursday, July 29 but the President would tape it first a day prior. In his appearance, he would talk about heavy issues like the oil spill in Gulf of Mexico, jobs and the economy. However, he will also be asked about his family life and what it’s like to live inside the White House.
To mark the occasion, Barbara Walters will also return to her seat as a host after months in recuperation of an open heart surgery. “We are so pleased and honored that President Obama will be a guest on ‘The View.’ …This shows that both the president and first lady feel that our show is an influential and important source of information and news,” Walters said.
This is not the first visit of Obama to “The View”. Together with his wife Michelle, the President was campaigning for U.S. presidency in March 2008 through the talk show.

“The Vampire Diaries” proves to be a show with growing number of fans judging from the crowd at San Diego Comic Con 2010 panel compared to last year’s. Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Michael Trevino, and Matthew Davis joined the executive producers of the show to present a sneak peek to the second season as well as some spoilers.
Katherine becomes the center of the clip with her return to Mystic Falls. She attacks Bonnie and pretty much everyone else who stands in her way. Damon also confesses to Stefan to have kissed Elena but he gets a bitter truth after Katherine tells him that she was never in love with him. Instead, Katherine tells Stefan she came back for him but he says he hates her and a duel begins immediately. The clip is not yet officially released, but a fan at the con taped it for bootleg version.
The Q & A session was kicked off with Dobrev saying how cool it is to portray Katherine. On the other hand, Somerhalder confessed he’s not too keen on portraying a nice Damon. “The nice Damon freaks me out. We went through that scene together with the kiss on the porch and I was miserable. I didn’t know what to do,” he said.
Then came the big bomb about what kind of creature the Lockwoods are. As expected, they are of werewolf descendant which will be explored in the new season. “We don’t want anything to look corny, and we don’t want to copy any other movies or television shows,” Trevino said about the transformation. Wesley teased, “He’s going to look like Michael J. Fox in ‘Teen Wolf’.”
Regarding the fate of Jeremy, exec producer Julie Plec said, “He’s either going to wake up alive of he’s going to wake up dead. But he is going to wake up.” Meanwhile, her partner Kevin Williamson hinted, “I don’t kill people just to kill people. But yes, people are going to die,” adding also there’s “another part of the story we haven’t shown you” about Katherine’s background story.
“The Vampire Diaries” returns September 9.

Kara is not the only relative of Clark who will return to the show. It was confirmed earlier that John Schneider would reprise his role as Clark’s adoptive father for at least one episode.
