Based on Alloy Entertainment’s book series by Cecily Von Ziegesar, CW’s Gossip Girl gave New York’s fashionable Upper East Side basically the same slick and sexy treatment as Fox’s The O.C. had given California’s Orange County. The series focused on a group of terribly wealthy, dazzlingly good-looking young men and women, all attending a high-end prep school. At the outset of the story, the previously unquestioned social supremacy of teenaged rich-bitch Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) was suddenly and unexpectedly placed in jeopardy by the return of Blair’s former best friend Serena Van der Woodson (Blake Lively), who’d just been booted out of boarding school. An unabashed “party animal” and romantic predator, Serena not only threatened Blair’s position as the school’s unofficial leader, but also tried to move in on Blair’s handsome-hunk boyfriend Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford). These momentous events were observed and commented upon by Blair’s current best buds Kati (Nan Zhang) and Isabel (Nicole Fiscella), and by the series’ obligatory “blue-collar” characters, likable Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgely) and his socially ambitious sister Jenny (Taylor Momsen)–the latter unwittingly targeted for eventual seduction by the school’s resident Lothario, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick). The titular “Gossip Girl”, played by Kristen Bell, dished out all the dirt on her online website, thus acting as the series’ unofficial narrator. Originally planned as a theatrical feature starring Lindsay Lohan, Gossip Girl ended up being developed as a TV series by The O.C.’s Josh Schwartz, and in this form made its debut as a pilot on September 19, 2007, and as a weekly offering on October 1 of that year.

Lily (Kelly Rutherford) tells Rufus (Matthew Settle) the big secret she has been keeping from him even though she knows it’s a huge risk. Dan (Penn Badgley) and Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) explore a new stage of their friendship. Chuck (Ed Westwick) is forced to make an extremely difficult decision about his hotel. Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Chace Crawford also star. Wendy Stanzler directed the episode written by Leila Gerstein (#315).

GOSSIP GIRL RETURNS WITH 10 ORIGINAL EPISODES! — Nate (Chace Crawford) and Serena (Blake Lively) decide to explore the boundaries of their friendship. Blair (Leighton Meester) suspects that Chuck (Ed Westwick) is having problems forgetting about the woman (guest star Laura Harring) he saw at his father’s grave. Jenny (Taylor Momsen) agrees to accompany Damien (guest star Kevin Zegers) to a State Dinner but is unaware that he needs her help with a drug exchange. Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and Dan (Penn Badgley) attempt to move past the awkwardness of Dan’s confession of love. Rufus (Matthew Settle) returns from a ski trip and tries his best to avoid Lily (Kelly Rutherford) sptv050769. Tony Wharmby directed the episode written by Sara Goodman (#313).

Episode Synopsis: GOSSIP GIRL “The Treasure of Serena Madre” Season 3 Episode 11 – It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving on the Upper East Side if there wasn’t a serving or two of some major drama for the holiday. Blair (Leighton Meester) suspects her mom (guest star Margaret Colin) has been keeping a big secret from her, but it turns out to be something else entirely. Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) is supposed to spend Thanksgiving with her parents, but has a fight with her mom (guest star Gina Torres) and shows up on Dan’s (Penn Badgley) doorstep.

Rufus (Matthew Settle) learns that Lily (Kelly Rutherford) has been lying to him about her mother, Cece (guest star Caroline Lagerfelt). Chuck (Ed Westwick) tells Nate (Chace Crawford) that he has some potentially damaging information about one of their friends. Jenny (Taylor Momsen) learns that Eric (Connor Paolo) was behind her very public embarrassment at Cotillion and can’t pass up a chance to get even. Serena (Blake Lively) is put in a very awkward position when her mother invites Trip (guest star Aaron Tveit) and Maureen (guest star Holley Fain) to join them for Thanksgiving dinner. The episode was directed by Mark Piznarski directed the episode written by Robert Hull & Joshua Safran.

Dan (Penn Badgley) and Olivia (guest star Hilary Duff) sign up to write and star in a school play, based on an idea by Blair and directed by Vanessa (Jessica Szohr). With Blair out of the picture, Serena (Blake Lively) turns to Nate (Chace Crawford) to help her get through a difficult situation. As a favor to Chuck (Ed Westwick), Jenny (Taylor Momsen) agrees to hang out with Damien (guest star Kevin Zegers), the son of an ambassador who is staying at Chuck’s hotel, but the experience proves to be a lot more intriguing than she expected. Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle also star. Tony Wharmby directed the episode written by Leila Gerstein
