“Reaper” creators/executive producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV.
Under the seven-figure pact, the duo will join a 20th TV series and develop projects for the studio.
Fazekas and Butters’ exclusive deal with 20th TV effectively seals the fate of their bubble CW series as it calls for them to leave “Reaper,” produced by ABC Studios, where the two had been based.
20th TV chairman Dana Walden remembers first hearing Fazekas’ name more than a decade ago, when writers on the studio’s Fox drama “The X-Files” raved about her skills as an assistant to executive producer Frank Spotnitz.
Fazekas and Butters got their start as a writing team at 20th TV, with a gig on Fox’s “Get Real.”
“They’re incredibly versatile writers,” Walden said. “They have done anything from a family drama with comedy to a straightforward procedural to a show that has sci-fi elements and comedy, and that’s the type of writers we’re most attracted to at this studio.”
Under their overall deal at ABC Studios, Fazekas and Butters created “Reaper,” whose pilot, directed by Kevin Smith, was one of the best-received last season.
The pair previously spent five seasons on NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU,” where they rose to co-executive producers and earned two WGA Award noms.
Fazekas and Butters, who also worked on NBC’s “Ed,” are repped by ICM and attorney Michael Gendler.
