A chance encounter with a talent scout affords half-brothers Tato (Bernal) and Beto (Luna) the opportunity to play professional soccer in Mexico City. The catch: the scout can only bring one of the boys, which kickstarts an intense sibling rivalry, though fate will not keep the brothers apart for long.
The feature directorial debut of Carlos Cuarón, Alfonso’s kid brother, had get-go buzz because of the Bernal-Luna reunion (both men have serious producer savvy these days, too), and the film was snapped up for U.S. distribution right before Sundance began this year. And if American audiences thought the boys’s diving-board hijinks were taboo, wait til you see what happens to Bernal (aka “Cursi”) in the shower! (Want to be spoiled? Read this review.)
