True Blood Season 5 – Vampire King Denis O’Hare Returns

Denis O’Hare, who excellently portrays Russell Edgington on True Blood recently hinted that the king of the vampires would be making a return, but he didn’t know when that return would be happening. Fans can now breathe a little easier because Film School Rejects had a chance to talk with O’Hare and discovered plans are a little more concrete these days.
“They were definitely bringing me back,” O’Hare reveals, “it was just a matter of if they wanted to bring me back the last couple episodes or bring me back at the beginning. So they decided to do it at the beginning of season 5.”
O’Hare also shared a little bit about what makes Russell such an interesting character to watch, describing the balance between Edgington’s menace and child-like wonder, “I always, as an actor, have a private back-story which I never tell anybody. One day I will. But his back-story is really fascinating. He came from a very weird place. I think the thing that you think about vampires is you think about them being urbane and sort of like lethargic and really cool, and very, very, unflappable. I thought it doesn’t have to be that way. There’s nothing written in the vampire rules that says they all have to be really slick, styling people.
And I love that Russell has this intense passion for life; literally a passion for living and a passion for life. I think that actually forms his kind of childlike quality.”
Even though we have to go through Season 4 without O’Hare, he’ll still be making his presence known on the small screen in FX’s American Horror Story, as well as on the big screen in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, and True Blood fans will have some new faces to keep them company during Edgington’s absence, including Caroline Bellefleur and a new character described as “an ancient vampire with a wicked thirst.”
