1883 Season 2 Renewed: “The Bass Reeves Story” – Release Date, Cast and Everything We Know – The narrative of the historic figure Bass Reeves is one of several told in the Yellowstone franchise. Before the Dutton family’s rich history could be explored in the Yellowstone prequel 1883 (which premiered in December), it was revealed in September that creator Taylor Sheridan was already working on another film about the “greatest frontier hero.” After seeing how John Dutton’s great-great-grandfather James Dutton (Tim McGraw) traveled from Tennessee to Montana in 1883, many viewers were disappointed to learn that it was Elsa’s (Isabel May) death that brought the family to Paradise Valley.
Although 1883 was going to be a limited series with ten hour-long episodes and Bass Reeves was supposed to be a distinct show, new ideas have lately been disclosed.
Must Read: 1883 Season 2: Is “The Bass Reeves Story” Based on a True Story?
The 1883 Season 2, based on real-life lawman Bass Reeves, titled “1883: The Bass Reeves Story,” would follow the first Black United States Marshal west of the Mississippi, who caught over 3,000 criminals. That would put it in the same category as Sheridan’s popular show “1883,” which was a precursor to the smash “Yellowstone.”
Reeves’ connection to the Duttons and their expedition in 1883 is unknown, given how the year concluded. The show follows James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret (Faith Hill) Dutton’s westward journey. Their plans to relocate to Oregon were thwarted when Elsa (Isabel May), their teenage daughter, was slain by an arrow while defending her family. She was buried in a valley in Montana, where the Duttons had chosen to make their home. Yellowstone’s John Dutton is the grandson of their youngest son, John (Kevin Costner).
According to recent reports, the Dutton family story will be continued in a new Yellowstone prequel series, in 1932, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, and set 50 years after the events of 1883. The Dutton children’s effort to safeguard the Yellowstone Ranch from those who would seize it would most likely be followed in 1932.
Who will Play Bass Reeves in Season 2 of 1883?
Bass Reeves will be played by David Oyelowo in Season 2 of 1883, titled 1883: The Bass Reeves Story. He’s 46 now, and Reeves would have been 45 in 1883. With a few exceptions, Oyelowo has primarily portrayed supporting roles, most notably in Ava DuVernay’s Selma as Martin Luther King, Jr. However, A Most Violent Year by J.C. Chandor, Gringo by Nash Edgerton, The Midnight Sky by George Clooney, and his portrayal as Kallus in Star Wars: Rebels are among Oyelowo’s other notable roles.
In addition to 1883 season 2, Oyelowo will star in a reimagined adaptation of The Rocketeer for Disney+. For his directorial debut, ‘The Water Man,’ he was nominated for Outstanding Independent actor.
Meanwhile, the Dutton family story will continue in other spinoffs such as 1932, 6666, and the main Yellowstone series, while 1883: The Bass Reeves Story might launch a new anthology, one-off series, or multi-season series focused on the real-life lawman.
The Reeves series was supposed to be a stand-alone for Taylor Sheridan and David Oyelowo, but it’s now part of the Yellowstone universe. So we’ll have to wait and see how things go. Meanwhile, here’s what we’ve discovered thus far.
