What Was the Amount of Money Stolen by Anna Sorokin?

Before moving to New York, Anna lived in Germany, the United Kingdom, and France. She was born in Russia and currently lives in Germany.

To the citizens of the United States, Anna Sorokin identified herself as Anna Delvey. She made everyone believe she was a German heiress with a lot of money in the bank and exploited that image.

Anna conned hotels, a bank, and even a friend over the course of a few months. She applied for a $22 million loan from a New York City bank in November 2016 to build an exclusive art club for the Anna Delvey Foundation.

She arrived with forged bank documents created in Photoshop. The bank, on the other hand, turned down the loan.

Anna later took the identical documents to an investment management firm, expecting for a better outcome.

The firm requested that she pay $100,000 in legal and due diligence fees.

As a result, Anna returned to her previous bank and persuaded a representative to overdraft her account, claiming she would transfer the funds shortly.

She then paid the management firm $100,000. Anna took a step back when the firm’s managing director volunteered to go to Switzerland to meet with her banker.

They returned the remaining $55,000, but Anna spent money on high-end clothing, personal training sessions, and hotel stays instead of repaying the loan.

Before the checks were returned, Anna placed faulty checks into her bank account and transferred roughly $70,000. She used some of it to cover the cost of one of the hotels she visited.

In August 2017, Anna tried something similar with another bank. She had booked a private plane for a round journey that cost around $35,000 earlier in May.

Because the company’s CEO had “socialised” with Anna and vouched for her ability to pay, Anna was allowed to take the trip without paying in advance. Anna, on the other hand, never made good on her promise.

Anna has also been charged with stealing $62,000 from a former friend. She promised an all-expenses-paid trip to Marrakesh, Morocco, but then claimed her credit card was dead, leaving Rachel Williams to foot the bill.

Anna stole around $275,000 in all, according to the prosecution, through her various frauds. Her conviction came with a hefty fine, and the judge demanded $199,000 in reparations.
