What Caused Annastasia “Annie” Hester’s Death?

Annastasia “Annie” Hester was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1981 and grew up in Gresham, Multnomah County. She was living in an apartment in Gresham with her 4-year-old daughter at the time of the event. Matthew Hester, the child’s father, has been divorced from the young mother since 2012.

The 36-year-old worked as a floor supervisor for a waste management company to support her child. Annie also worked part-time at an after-school programme. Annie dialled 911 in a frantic state at 3 a.m. on June 10, 2016. Someone had stabbed her all over her body, said the dispatcher. Annie stayed on the phone until the authorities arrived, which took only minutes.

She was brought to the hospital, but she died before she could give a description of the attacker. Annie was stabbed more than 60 times and had defensive wounds on her hand, according to an autopsy; the stabs damaged her vital organs.

Who was Annastasia “Annie” Hester’s killer?

The killer broke into Annie’s flat and attacked her while she was sleeping, according to the investigators. Annie was attacked again as she attempted to flee through the front door. Several bloody knives were discovered at the crime scene, as well as a bloody bootprint that would prove to be crucial evidence.

Annie’s neighbours heard some screaming at the time, but they didn’t observe anything odd. Annie had been tormented for almost four hours, according to police, since the initial screams were heard just after 11 p.m. on June 9. Annie’s daughter was with Matthew at the time of the event as part of a visitation.

Annie was given full custody of the child in May 2016, after the two initially shared custody. Following his divorce, Matthew married Angela Rose McCraw, a mother of three children. Matthew first claimed to have been at home with Angela and the children when questioned. Angela made a similar statement.

The authorities, on the other hand, discovered that Matthew owed Annie child support and court fees. Angela claimed that Annie wouldn’t let Matthew call his daughter, and the former couple was involved in a custody fight. The authorities discovered considerable evidence linking Angela to the crime after a year-long investigation.

A vehicle came at 11 p.m. on June 9, 2016, and left around 3 a.m. the next day, according to security footage from the neighbourhood. This vehicle matched the description given by Angela and Matthew. One of the weapons used in Annie Hester murder, contained traces of Angela’s DNA on it, and the bootprint matched the size and brand of shoes she had purchased in 2015.

Matthew later claimed to assisting Angela in cleaning up when she returned home covered in blood. He also said that they contemplated murdering Annie and that they attempted to have Angela’s ex-husband, Aaron McCraw, perform the crime.

Angela eventually pleaded guilty to Annie Hester murder and earned a hefty prison sentence. Matthew, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit Annie Hester murder and another felony and was sentenced to more than four years in prison.
