Who Was Jesse Anderson?
Jesse Michael Anderson, an American convicted murderer (May 3, 1957 – November 30, 1994), was killed in jail with serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer by fellow prisoner and convicted murderer Christopher Scarver.
In Alton, Illinois, Anderson was raised. Anderson’s mother remarried when he was a teenager, and his father passed away after a heart attack. He graduated from Alton High School in 1975. He wed Debra Ann Eickert in 1980, and the two separated in 1984. He earned a Business Administration degree from Elmhurst College in 1984 as well. He wed Barbara E. Lynch in Chicago on March 30, 1985.
The Anderson family, who had three young children, resided in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, before his arrest for murder. He volunteered at the Divine Word Catholic Church and was the Lions Club’s treasurer.
How Did Jesse Anderson Die?
Jesse Anderson, an Illinois native, graduated from Elmhurst College with a business administration degree before marrying Debra Ann Eickert in 1980. Unfortunately, the couple’s marriage did not survive very long. When cracks started appearing, they decided to part ways and divorced in 1984. Jesse and Barbara Anderson got married a second time in 1985, and they made their home in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. According to appearances, the couple were content during their first few years of dating and even welcomed three children into the world. But there was strife developing behind closed doors, and in 1992, things took a terrible turn.
In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 21, 1992, Jesse and Barbara were leaving a restaurant when the latter seized his wife and fatally stabbed her many times. Jesse, however, also stabbed himself three times in the chest, and the both of them were subsequently found unconscious in the parking lot. When the police arrived, they discovered Jesse only slightly hurt and Barbara dead from 21 stab wounds. Jesse was ultimately found guilty of the murder in August of that same year and given a life sentence.
On November 28, 1994, Jesse, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Christopher Scarver were ordered to clean the gymnasium’s restrooms while incarcerated at the Colombia Correctional Institute. Scarver stole a large bar from the nearby gymnasium and beat both Jesse and Jeffrey while the inmates were left unsupervised in the restroom. Jesse was transferred to a hospital and passed away after being taken off life support a few days later, while Jeffrey passed away right there. Scarver received two additional life terms for the double murder, adding to his existing life sentence for murder.
Who Killed Jesse Anderson and Why?

People tried to help Jesse and Barbara get up after discovering them injured in the parking lot and calling the police. Jesse’s wounds weren’t too bad, and he was still conscious, but Barbara was entirely unconscious and appeared to have several knife wounds throughout her body. Barabra was pronounced dead when law enforcement officers arrived on the scene, and her spouse was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
When questioned, Jesse said that he and Barbara had been approached by two black individuals who attempted to rob them at knifepoint while they were strolling through the parking lot. Barbara was stabbed in the face and neck; however, it appeared that the argument turned violent. Jesse also maintained that he was attacked and stabbed while defending his wife.
The police tried to find the alleged offenders in the days that followed, but the case quickly changed course. Authorities could confirm that Jesse was the only person there during the murder based on the blood sample results. The suspect had contacted Barbara’s insurance provider around a month before the murder to inquire about her policy, which the police discovered at the same time. Jesse was subsequently detained, found guilty, and given a punishment.
Later, Christopher Carver admitted that he was furious at how a white man attempted to evade justice by blaming two black men for murder. Additionally, he stated that Jesse had destroyed a portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. while incarcerated and that this act of racism was what prompted Carver to kill Jesse.
