Netflix Releases First Image of Imelda Stanton as Queen Elizabeth II in ‘The Crown’

The Crown Season 5 - Netflix

In season 5 of The Crown, Netflix introduced Emelda Stanton as Queen Elizabeth II.

The beautiful royal drama from Left Bank Pictures is slated to premiere in the UK later this month, with a brand new artist stepping into the shoes of Britain’s most renowned family.

Stanton replaces Emmy nominee Olivia Coleman at 10 Downing Street during Prime Minister John Major’s seven-year rule, depicting her grandeur, according to The Crown’s official Twitter account.

Oscar contender Stanton, speaking to the BBC earlier this year about the Queen’s function, said the role is complicated because the Crown has a recent history in British history.

“I think the greater challenge, as I want it to be, comes from the fact that I’m doing it now that we know a little bit more.” But then, it was almost history with Claire Foy, and now I’m playing what people can say. “She doesn’t, and she isn’t,” she explains.
