In episode 6, aptly titled ‘Follies,’ the first season of ‘Slow Horses‘ comes to a close with a frenzy of twists and discoveries. The kidnapping of Hassan Ahmed has the Slow Horses and MI5 on edge, but there are deeper plans afoot. A surprising revelation regarding Jackson Lamb and Catherine Standish’s connection gives us a tantalising glimpse into their pasts while also keeping the drama continuing until the season finale’s final minutes.

Recap of ‘Slow Horses’ Season 1 Episode 6 (Season Finale)
The episode begins with the MI5 releasing Jackson and River after they successfully blackmail Diana Taverner with damaging evidence. Following that, the MI5 director confronts right-wing politician Peter Judd, threatening to reveal his various affairs and affiliations to shady organisations. She wants Peter to provide her with information on Hassan Ahmed’s kidnappers in exchange for her quiet.
After Zeppo’s death in episode 5, the kidnappers are down to just Curly and Larry, and they’re on their way to a hidden location to carry out Hassan’s murder and film it. When Larry arrives, he assists Hassan in escaping and drives away in their van, leaving Curly behind.
Unfortunately for Larry, the MI5 has tracked the kidnappers’ automobile and has apprehended him, killing him instantly. Meanwhile, Curly tracks down Hassan and kidnaps him once more.
The Slow Horses arrive near Curly and Hassan’s location, thanks to Roddy’s intel from the hacked MI5 systems, and River eventually locates the kidnapper and his prisoner. Hassan knocks out the abductor as Curly tries to fend him off. The MI5 agents then attempt to assassinate Curly in order to “tie up” the entire operation, but River, Min, and Louisa stop them.
Is Hassan Ahmed Dead or Alive at the End of Season 1 of Slow Horses?
Diana Taverner and her supervisor, Ingrid Tearney, begin to hide their traces now that Hassan Ahmed has been rescued. Diana is advised to delete all files relating to the MI5 and Alan Black. The Slow Horses aren’t given credit for Hassan’s rescue, but Jackson Lamb obtains Catherine Standish’s personal file back from Diana.
Jackson Lamb’s intriguing history with Catherine Standish is explored in the last minutes of season one of ‘Slow Horses.’ Private papers concerning Catherine, her late husband Charles, and Jackson are included in the personal file he receives from Diana, implying that there is a link between them. The bombshell disclosure at the end of the episode is that Jackson is the one who killed Catherine’s spouse and made it look like a suicide.
But, with all of the twists and turns in the season 1 finale, let’s look at the fundamental enigma. River Cartwright and the Slow Horses save Hassan Ahmed and he survives the harrowing kidnapping. Things grow dangerously close, and Curly is apprehended just in time before murdering the young pupil. Hassan then has to fight the impulse to kill Curly, which he eventually resists.
Hassan is safe, but the MI5 is watching him closely. One of the few persons who knows about the involvement of an MI5 agent, Alan Black, in the kidnapping is the previous kidnapping victim.
As a result, Diana requires Hassan to remain silent. In this case, the young student’s university loans are forgiven, and his comedy club receives a confidential grant from MI5. From his brief press appearance, it appears that Hassan is wary of disclosing anything and risking additional involvement in a CIA cover-up.
What is Diana Taverner’s Fate?
When the Slow Horses beat her to Hassan’s location, Diana Taverner’s plans fall apart. She not only misses out on the opportunity to murder Curly and forever silence him, but she also misses out on the opportunity to reach the hostage first. The kidnapper, like Hassan, is aware that an MI5 agent was engaged in the kidnapping – a fact that, if revealed, would make Diana’s life extremely difficult.
Diana, on the other hand, emerges from the crisis ahead of schedule, and she and her supervisor, Ingrid Tearney, are credited with Hassan’s spectacular rescue. She must, however, maintain the secrecy surrounding her relationship with Alan Black. She must also hand over Catherine Standish’s personal file to Jackson Lamb in order for him to remain silent on the topic.
‘Slow Horses’ Season 1 Episode 6 Ending Explained
The season finale reveals a fascinating past relationship between Jackson Lamb and Catherine Standish. When challenged, Jackson ultimately admits to supplying the gun used by Catherine’s husband, Charles, to commit himself. As startling as Catherine’s announcement is, the truth is far weirder.
The season finale concludes with the revelation that Jackson murdered Charles Partner. River’s grandfather, David Cartwright, appears to be a suspect in the murder. Their motivations, though, remain unknown.
However, their demeanour indicates that assassinating Charles is not part of any formal MI5 assignment. Furthermore, Jackson is determined to conceal the murder, which is why he lies to Catherine. Jackson Lamb’s main secret appears to be the murder of Charles Partner, and it could even be the reason he’s at Slough House.
