He has always been interested in plays and the theatre. He performed in a couple of plays and was a part of his school’s dramatic production. He earned a degree in politics from Sussex University. Toussaint began working for a Merchant Bank before quitting and relocating to the US to pursue acting.
In 1990, he joined a theater company and played the Genie in Aladdin at the Churchill Theater in his first professional performance. He also performed in The Merchant of Venice and Macbeth for The Royal Shakespeare Company under the direction of Michael Boyd.
In The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, he made his professional debut as Steve Dixie in 1994. When it was revealed that Toussaint would be playing Corlys Velaryon in House of the Dragon on February 11, 2021, the 57-year-old actor expressed his happiness and surprise in an interview with The Guardian.
In an interview with The Guardian, Steve Toussaint previously addressed the bigotry he experienced from some Game of Thrones fans and discussed the absurdity that anybody would regard his casting as Colrlys Velaryon as the most implausible aspect of the dragon fantasy series. “History is moving in a specific way,” he declared. They are on the incorrect side of the issue. And I can’t spend too much time listening to some keyboard warrior in his mother’s bedroom hurl insults at me or anyone else.
The actor told The Hollywood Reporter, “Eve Best and Rhaenys… are the only couple together purely for love”. He added that his character in the series, “Doesn’t always pay attention, but he seeks her advice.”

He worked briefly in hospital administration after graduating from college but did not enjoy either position at all. As a result, he eventually quit his job and took a three-month vacation in the US before choosing to try acting once more.
