The narrative of Elizabeth Holmes and her biotech enterprise, Theranos, is taken in a new path in ‘The Dropout‘ episode 7, as the company’s long-standing difficulties are set to go public. Journalist John Carreyrou intensifies his efforts to expose Theranos’ dubious business practises in this episode. Holmes, on the other hand, reiterates her threats to sue anyone who tries to harm her company’s public image.

Recap of Episode 7 of The Dropout
‘Heroes,’ the 7th episode, begins with an examination of Elizabeth Holmes’ continuous climb in the public and media eye. Journalist John Carreyrou, on the other hand, continues to investigate the Theranos tale and interacts with several of the doctors and patients who have used the company’s technology.
Carreyrou has three doctors’ statements and is waiting for emails from Theranos lab head Mark Rossler. Furthermore, he hopes Tyler Shultz will speak to the publication on the record, lending credence to their allegations against Theranos.
Finally, he tries to persuade Judith Baker, his editor, to publish the tale. Judith, on the other hand, believes they should first allow Theranos to respond to their queries.
Carreyrou sends Theranos a list of questions, which Holmes examines with her legal team. Holmes chooses to sue former employees and doctors who signed non-disclosure agreements with the corporation only to leak the company’s trade secrets to the journalist. Whistleblowers like Rossler, Tyler, and Erika Cheung begin to have second thoughts about speaking out against Theranos because of the company’s intimidation techniques.
Tyler ignores Carreyrou’s calls in favour of talking to his grandfather, George Shultz. George summons Tyler to his home in order to correct the situation and prevent Tyler from being sued by Theranos. Tyler, on the other hand, discovers Linda Tanner waiting for him at George’s residence.
Tanner and Theranos are pursuing harsh legal action against Tyler, much to George’s astonishment, and George serves as a mediator between the two parties to resolve the matter. However, things spiral out of control when Tyler pressures his grandfather to admit that his assessment of Holmes’ character was incorrect.
Meanwhile, Theranos receives approval for its Herpes testing. The Wall Street Journal’s owner, Rupert Murdoch, invests heavily in Theranos, causing Carreyrou to assume that the publication will destroy his report regarding Theranos. During Carreyrou and Judith’s face-to-face encounter with Theranos, lawyer David Boies casually mentions that Theranos is absolutely employing third-party machines.
Is John Carreyrou’s Article Published in The Dropout Episode 7?
In this episode, Carreyrou’s piece acquires some traction after he speaks with a number of credible sources who have firsthand knowledge of Theranos’ fraudulent activities. Holmes, on the other hand, isn’t one to give up easily. She uses every trick in the book to put an end to Carreyrou’s story. She still has George Shultz’s support and a powerful legal team on her side.
Unfortunately, Theranos’ intimidation methods and threats of legal action appear to be discouraging whistleblowers from speaking out against the firm. Furthermore, Rupert Murdoch’s funding in Theranos effectively destroys any chance of Carreyrou’s story being published.
Carreyrou and his editor are, however, permitted to continue their investigation into Theranos and its business operations, much to their astonishment. Carreyrou manages to pull an admission about the company’s wrongdoings out of Holmes and her colleagues during a private conversation. The statement turns out to be the final missing piece of the puzzle, and the article comes together.
Judith acknowledges that they’ve finally got everything in place to publish the Theranos article. The Wall Street Journal publishes Carreyrou’s exposé on Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes near the end of the episode. Despite her best efforts, Holmes is unable to prevent the publication of the story.
In the final moments of the video, Holmes addresses her staff, arguing that Carreyrou’s piece lacks credibility and that they will work together to disprove his assertions. Carreyrou’s account, on the other hand, foreshadows a slew of legal challenges that Theranos and Holmes would face in the future.
