The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 2 Recap and Ending, Explained

The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 2 Recap – Faraday must go it alone after realising his task is more complicated and dangerous than he thought and being abandoned by the only human who can help him. He has no idea that he’s suddenly on the radar of a CIA operative.

The second episode of ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth,’ titled ‘Unwashed and Slightly Dazed,’ begins with the eponymous character, Faraday, in exactly that situation. Our hero emerges from the tornado with new instructions and goes out for his next destination, Seattle. Meanwhile, Justin Falls’ mysterious journey continues as she reluctantly joins Faraday’s mission.

We also get a few glances of the sinister Newton, who seems to straddle the human-alien divide. It was just a matter of time before the CIA got involved, which they have done. In Showtime’s episode 2 of ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth,’ there’s a lot to untangle.

The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 2 Unwashed and Slightly Dazed’ Recap

The second episode opens up right where the first left off, with Faraday and Newton speaking in a bizarre, surreal forest. It is revealed that the latter is likewise from the faraway planet of Antheon and travelled to Earth in search of water. He appears to have become distracted by earthly vices and has become bitter as a result.

Newton also verifies that Faraday has communicated with Justin Falls and directs him to travel to Seattle. Faraday emerges from the tornado coated in mud after his talk with Newton. Initially arriving to assist him, Justin is taken aback by his appearance and drives away.

After a terrifying encounter with Faraday, the alien makes his way to a neighbouring diner, where the friendly waitress directs him to the airport so he may fly to Seattle. However, the radiation at the airport causes him to become frightened, and after being jailed, Faraday demands that Justin pick him up once more.

Meanwhile, spy agencies notice the aliens’ rendezvous inside the cyclone and conclude that a similar “anomaly” occurred forty-five years ago. Dr. Gregory Papel, the only living CIA member who was present during the initial anomaly, now resides in an Alaskan jungle. When agent Spencer Clay finally finds him, the doctor is in a disordered state of mind and shoots himself after yelling mostly incomprehensible warnings.

What Does Faraday Do to Justin’s Father in The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 2?

Back at Justin’s house, Faraday is taken aback by the fact that her ailing father is still alive. The alien is perplexed as to why valuable planetary resources are being spent on a being who has outlived its usefulness.

When Justin refuses to take Faraday to Seattle, claiming that she must care for her father, the alien enters the ailing man’s room while he is sleeping and gently squeezes his throat. Josiah Falls’ neck begins to glow shortly after, and the episode ends with him standing over Faraday, who has collapsed on the floor.

Faraday’s supernatural abilities, such as supersensitivity to many stimuli and the mildly amusing capacity to spew gold, are revealed in the last scene. The alien seemed to have cured Justin’s father, Josiah, of the severe degenerative sickness that had been plaguing him. The feeble and elderly man is now standing upright and recovering control of his hands in the last scenes. Justin is astounded at her father’s appearance as well.

Faraday, on the other hand, does not appear to be able to cure someone, but rather to take on their illness. As a result, we see Faraday lying on the ground, suffering from the same illness as Josiah. The alien’s new order from Newton is the driving force behind this ostensibly self-destructive action.

Faraday suggests that Justin drive him to Seattle because it is the quickest way for him to get there. Because Justin is unable to leave due to her ailing father, Faraday treats him in the hopes of persuading her to accompany him to Seattle. It’s unclear whether Justin would agree, but given the high price Faraday paid to cure her father, it’s likely she will.

The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 2 Recap

Why is Faraday So Eager to Visit Seattle in Earth Episode 2 Ending?

Faraday is planning a trip to Seattle to look for a firm called Origin. Newton briefly (and bitterly) mulls about the tech firm he founded, which was subsequently “stolen” from him at the start of the episode. Newton tells Faraday to return it and sends him to Seattle. With no more orders received, it’s unclear what Faraday will do once he arrives at Origin.

The encounter with Newton and his orders also strongly suggests that the sour-faced extraterrestrial, who has been on Earth for far longer than Faraday, has his own plans and isn’t looking out for the best interests of his home planet.

Dr. Gregory Papel

Why did Dr. Gregory Papel commit suicide?

Dr. Gregory Papal is a CIA psychiatrist who was present when a tornado identical to the one Faraday sees occurred forty-five years ago. The doctor relates to the CIA agent, through disjointed phrases, that the first being was apprehended and tortured by Gregory and his associates. He goes on to explain that the interrogators poked the alien’s eyes out and caused him to go insane. Dr. Gregory shoots himself shortly after revealing this.

The elderly doctor is clearly terrified, as seen by his neurotic behaviour. The reason for this is that all of his coworkers, from the moment they originally encountered the alien, have now died. As a result, Dr. Gregory is concerned that he may suffer the same fate.

He’s also filled with remorse for torturing the alien and turning it into a violent beast. The doctor appears to commit suicide for these two reasons. Also, in case you missed it, the extraterrestrial tormented by Dr. Gregory all those years ago is most likely Newton.
