The Resident Season 5 Episode 21 ”Risk Recap

On The Resident Season 5 Episode 21, When Conrad gets to work, he discovers that his boss, Dr. Kincaid “Cade” Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), has resigned. He tells her, “I’ll miss you.” “Did we ever really have a chance?” she wonders, but he responds, “I felt we had a chance.” She can’t take any chances with the mob’s assassin on the lookout for fraudulent prescriptions. Cade drives away after a long hug for Conrad in private, then farewells for the rest of the employees.

Her FBI escort behind her, she’s shot before she’s even left the parking lot. Conrad sees her go away and rushes over to her. Cade asks Conrad to hold her hand because she thinks she’s about to die.

The FBI places the ER on lockdown once they get her back in, and everyone works to save her. Two bullets shattered her spleen, and the other narrowly missed her heart. Conrad is especially worried about her next neuro exam. Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) tells him, “It’s not like Nic.”

“If you take care of the rest of her, that brain will be OK.” Cade was a whistleblower working for the FBI who broke apart a mob organisation, and Conrad informs everyone about it right before she takes a turn. They realise she’s having a response to the blood transfusion. Conrad realises that’s why Cade said “blood.” Rhnull is a rare kind, and she requires an exact match.

Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) must operate, at the very least, to remove her spleen and fix whatever else is threatening her life, but doing so without blood means operating quickly and leaving her abdomen open. At the same time, she waits in the ICU for her next surgery. As feared, things don’t go as planned, and they have to disconnect her bowel after removing a defective section.

Meanwhile, Billie searches for her blood. At first, all they have is her father, who is flying in from Seattle on the red-eye, but he won’t be in Atlanta until the next morning, 16 hours later.

On The Resident Season 5 Episode 21, Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal) offers to take over as point man, recognising that while Conrad isn’t Nic, having a friend and colleague he wants to save must be triggering. Conrad adds, “Not even close.” “We have a chance to save Cade.” (This doesn’t stop him from catching a glimpse of Nic on the hospital bed when he turns to face Cade.) In fact, they find out that Cade had two units of her blood at her previous job (Atlanta General), but it’s frozen when Conrad and Billie open it. When they defrost it, the plastic fractures, causing the bags to leak. Everything is tainted.

Devon suggests that they use a blood substitute based on haemoglobin. It’s meant to save soldiers in war who don’t have access to a blood transfusion, but it can be dangerous. Despite the dangers, they know that if they don’t act, Cade would die; thus, they don’t have much of a choice. Fortunately, it works well enough for her to proceed with her next procedure.

The Resident Season 5 Episode 21 Ending Explained

In The Resident Season 5 Episode 21, Billie checks on Conrad while in observation, asking the question that everyone is thinking, but no one is saying: “How personal is this, Conrad?” While he attempts to convince her that it is personal to everyone, she persists. “Are you head over heels in love with Cade?” He declines. “Are you certain?” Billie inquires. No, once again. “We didn’t go there because she understood she had to leave.” To defend herself, she erected barricades. “I did, too,” he says.

“It always comes back to Nic,” says the narrator. Something is stopping me, and it isn’t Cade. It’s the same with others.” Billie wants to know what’s holding him back. Conrad acknowledges, “I’m not sure.” “Perhaps I’m defending myself. I can’t take another loss like that, and I’m not sure whether I’m cheating on Nic. All I know is that everything I feel is only valid for so long. Then the walls start to rise.” She proposes, “Perhaps you just need a little prodding.”

The surgery went as smoothly as it possibly can. Then it’s simply a matter of waiting to see if there’s any irreversible brain damage once she’s extubated. Devon observes Conrad sitting with her and adds, “It’s like he wants to repeat what happened to Nic and alter the conclusion.” When she finally wakes up, he’s still by her side.

She says, “Hey, partner.” He tells her, “I can’t tell you how delighted I am to hear those two words.” And, according to Billie, her neuro exam was “immaculate.” Her recuperation will be lengthy, but the good news is that more blood of her kind has just arrived: her father. Cade doesn’t appear delighted about the news.

“I’m here to save my daughter’s life,” says Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) as the episode ends.
