What Is a “Stub” in ‘The Peripheral’? – Scott Smith is the executive producer and creator of the American science fiction streaming television program “The Peripheral.” It was created by Amazon and is based on William Gibson’s 2014 novel of the same name. Along with Athena Wickham, Steve Hoban, and Vincenzo Natali, executive producers for Westworld include Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. A lady learns that she has a hidden connection to another reality and a bleak future of her own in this futuristic story that is set in a time when technology has gradually changed society.

Before its release on Amazon Prime Video on October 21, 2022, the series had its world premiere on October 11, 2022, at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles.

However, when offered to beta-test cutting-edge VR technology, Flynne finds herself more difficult than anticipated. Is the virtual environment she perceives real? What exactly is a stub in The Peripheral?

What is a Stub in ‘The Peripheral’?

Is anyone watching The Peripheral who loves Doctor Who? Do you recall how the Doctor constantly taught his companions about “fixed points in time,” or moments that should never, ever be changed?

In The Peripheral, a stub is essentially a case of a fixed point in time being broken—if you will, a branch from a linear chronology. When she is referred to as a stub in Episode 2, Flynne is understandably a little confused.

In essence, Flynne transported her to a digital replica of the future using the VR headset he was testing. She encounters Wilf (Gary Carr), a man in the virtual reality version of London, who explains what a stub is: it’s when someone from the present contacts someone from the past (that would be Flynne).

A stub is a wrench in a fixed timetable. Flynne accidentally launched a new chronology that changed Wilf’s timeline in the future when she put on the VR headset, thinking she was only testing out virtual reality.

Confused? Consider a stub as a time-traveling pothole. Regardless of how the driver feels about it, it pushes the automobile to move in a slightly different direction.

Every Friday on Prime Video, new episodes of The Peripheral are released, taking you into a realm of time travel and warped space.
