In the Philippines, both military personnel suffered the same fate after being ambushed and shot in front of Sonia’s family. The families of Risken and Bourdeau affirm their conviction that Sonia was the perpetrator of both slayings. Then, a year after Larry Risken was shot to death in his house on the south side of Los Angeles, Sonia met the same end.

What Happened to Dennis Bourdeau and Where Is He Now?
According to Dennis in the NBC original, Earl Bourdeau “was the pride of the family,” but that fact never worried him because he, too, always looked up to his older brother. They went above and beyond what siblings often do for one another, so much so that the latter actually persuaded the former Marine to end his tumultuous 21-year marriage to Sonia. Due to a dreadful gut feeling soon before their forthcoming divorce, the young Bourdeau even tried to stop his brother from going to her native Philippines alone at her request, but to no avail.
As Dennis revealed in CBS‘ episode ‘48 Hours: Conspiracy to Kill,’ “Sonia set my brother up [to die]. Evil… just evil, [Earl] goes, ‘I don’t want to go.’ And I told him, ‘Then don’t go.’ And he says, ‘Sonia’s makin’ me’… Next thing I know, my brother was dead. It was like dying yourself… [It] just killed my mom and dad. [It] was just like the end of the world.”
Dennis initially tried to look into his brother’s death on his own, but he didn’t start to feel any genuine hope until 19 years later, when Sonia’s second husband was killed in an amazingly identical way. He was somewhat relieved when Earl’s remains were eventually not only found in the Asian country but also brought back to be buried in his hometown.
We can’t be totally sure about Dennis’ whereabouts because he now chooses to stay out of the spotlight, although it seems he still resides in Davenport, Iowa. The 70-something-year-old’s head still looms over him like a cloud, but he appears to be moving on as best he can while keeping Earl’s memories alive in his heart. “I’ve hated myself for not being able to be there to help him when he needed help and I let him down,” he said.
What Happened to Sherry Jackson and Where Is He Now?
Sherry Jackson’s older brother, Larry Risken, and Dennis were close growing up in Washington State, but their relationship took a sharp turn when Dennis met Sonia. Back in 2009, she reportedly told CBS News that the then-Navy Officer “was the clown of the family. He had a lot of friends, was humorous, and behaved like a teenager, but the “flamboyant” and “beautiful” Sonia was a problem. Thus, there was a significant rift in the family for many years, but things started to improve when he decided to leave her.”
Unfortunately, that was also the time he was shot to death, which prompted Sherry to try to uncover the truth by recording the odd emails she had received and speaking with the authorities. She even kept in touch with Dennis, who was temporarily detained after Sonia was executed in 2007 along with her, but they were both immediately exonerated.
Sherry and Dennis both firmly believe their sister-in-law killed their brothers, and they both insist that justice will never be served. Nonetheless, Sherry seems to be still hoping for an end to the case. This is due to the fact that she has a dream to find Larry’s ashes, no matter where they may be—in the Philippines, California, or anywhere else. It is well known that Sonia incinerated her second husband.
Since possessing their remains “is probably the nicest feeling in the entire wide universe,” Dennis also wants the same for Sherry. Kind of like your first kid. There’s something to look at, enjoy, and be a part of, and it’s so thrilling, and you’ve got all this love for him. Currently living in Olympia, Washington, Sherry Jackson appears to be leading a reclusive life, as far as we can tell.
