Where Are Tammy and Sidney Moorer Today? – Dateline: Secrets Uncovered previously looked into the disappearance of Heather Elvis following her suspected liaison with Sidney Moorer, a 37-year-old Socastee resident.
Heather and Sidney first came into contact when the latter visited the Tilted Kilt, where Heather worked as a waitress to fix the kitchen appliances. In June 2013, she began an affair that ended tragically, and after Sidney’s wife, Tammy Moorer, learned about it, things quickly got worse.
Both Sidney and Tammy were instantly named as suspects in the case after Heather vanished in 2013. In 2017, Sidney received a sentence for obstructing justice. In 2019, an abduction charge was added to his record. At Bishopville’s Lee Correctional Institution, which offers the highest level of security, he is currently serving his term.
The Dateline: Secrets Uncovered segment from this week’s rebroadcast focused on Heather’s extraordinary case, which rocked the small town of South Carolina to its foundation.

Who Were Tammy and Sidney Moorer and What Did They Do?
A 37-year-old repairman with aspirations of becoming a travel agent, Sidney Moorer. While working at the Tilted Kilt, he got to know Heather Elvis.
Moorer had three kids with Tammy, his wife. But their union appeared to have faltered, especially in light of the fact that he had another affair just before meeting Heather.
In June 2013, Heather and Moorer started dating. The group of Heather’s friends knew about their brief relationship and frequently teased her for it.
When Sidney’s wife finally learned, she not only forced him to break up with Heather as she listened but also repeatedly abused and threatened Heather over the following six months.
In 2013, Heather Elvis vanished on December 17. Sidney Moorer allegedly called her on the phone during their final exchange. According to her former roommate, Moorer reportedly informed Heather that he wanted to leave his wife and be with her.
A pay phone was used to make this call. Heather allegedly made numerous attempts to contact back but was unsuccessful. Two days after she vanished, her automobile was discovered at Peachtree Landing and showed no indications of damage.
Despite being named as suspects immediately, Tammy and Sidney Moorer denied involvement.
In the end, Sidney was charged with lying about his discussion with the payphone in an effort to hide his encounter with Heather. Tammy and Sidney were then both taken into custody and charged. Due to a lack of evidence, the murder accusation against them was dismissed; nonetheless, Sidney was found guilty of obstructing the course of justice.
Where Are Sidney and Tammy Moorer Today?
Within four months of Heather’s abduction, Tammy and Sidney were detained and charged with murder, kidnapping, obstructing justice, and two instances of (somehow connected) indecent exposure. However, by the time spring 2016 arrived, the prosecution had dropped both the first and last counts. The murder charge was dropped without prejudice so that the state could re-file it in the future. Then, in April 2018, a grand jury indicted the pair on another count of conspiring to kidnap each. However, due to a gag order on the whole case, no precise details were made public.
After protracted legal proceedings, Sidney was found guilty of obstructing justice in 2017 and the kidnapping charges in 2019. Tammy was found guilty of kidnapping and conspiring to kidnap in 2018. He received the same term plus an additional ten years (for obstruction) to run consecutively, with credit for time already served, while she received the same sentence plus 30 years for each.
As a result, Sidney, 46, is currently detained at Bishopville’s Lee Correctional Institution, which has a maximum level of security, and Tammy, 50, is incarcerated at Greenwood’s Leath Correctional Institution, which has a medium level of protection. According to state records, both of them are ineligible for parole, although the latter’s predicted release date is May 9, 2043, while the former’s is March 31, 2044. It should be noted that both of them have attempted to appeal their convictions for years, adamantly claiming their innocence, but to no avail as of this writing.
