Who Is Samantha Herrera?

Samantha Herrera was formerly a companion of John McAfee. She is from the rural Caribbean nation of Belize. Samantha claimed to have been living in San Pedro, Belize, with McAfee. They began courting when she was just eighteen.

Following the mysterious death of their Florida neighbor, Gregory Faull, in 2012, the couple vacated their home.

Where Is Samantha Herrera Now?

Samantha Herrera is a bartender who resides in Orange Walk, Belize. According to her Facebook profile, she does not currently appear to be in a committed relationship, but she has a lovely family that includes two children. Herrera decided to avoid the spotlight after her exploits with McAfee ended. She didn’t speak much about it in the media. Still, she did divulge some information in the Netflix original films “Running With the Devil” and “Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee” on Showtime.

In the latter, she also disclosed that although though McAfee had passed away in 2021, she later received a call from a man posing as McAfee. He claimed to be hiding in Texas and pretended to pass away to escape the Spanish prison. Additionally, he requested Herrera to flee with him.

While Herrera has firsthand knowledge of participating in McAfee’s wild scams, some may find McAfee’s faked death to be absurd. He previously suffered a heart attack while in Guatemala, which oddly permitted him to return to the US, raising some questions about the circumstances. McAfee bemoaned the fact that Herrera couldn’t travel with him to the United States at the time, but afterward claimed that Herrera had set him up. Herrera, though, had already seen her fair share of highs and lows with McAfee by this point.

When she first met the tech millionaire who was leading a wild lifestyle in Belize, she was just eighteen years old. When McAfee’s next-door neighbor, Gregory Faull, passed away in 2012 under questionable circumstances, he started to worry that the Belizean government would come after him since he thought he had the means to expose their corruption.

Herrera decided to follow him as he fled. They intended to get married, and as they crossed into Guatemala, it appeared that they might be safe in America. The couple’s journey, however, came to an end at this point. Since then, Herrera has made an effort to avoid McAfee, who appears to have had a lot more unwinding to do.

Herrera claims near the end of the Netflix documentary that she received a questionable call, purportedly from McAfee. Still, she doesn’t elaborate on her thoughts on the matter, including whether or not she thinks McAfee indeed called her.

Charlie Russell, the director, thinks she doesn’t. “I don’t know what I think and I don’t think she does. She says it, then she looks at the camera, and I can’t work out whether she thinks it’s real or not,” he said in an interview with Esquire.

She’s someone who was very angry at John. I think he offered her a real different future, then he literally ditched her at the border and I think that’s very painful for her and it’s taken her years to get over that.”

Even though Herrera thinks McAfee faked his death, the likelihood of her following him on the run and abandoning the life she created for herself is fairly remote, given their shared turbulent relationship.
